Appointments
All consulting hours are on an appointment-only basis. When making appointments, the assistant usually reserves ten minutes per patient. Please let her know if you have more than one problem that you wish to discuss with your GP, if you require minor surgical intervention, or if for some other reason you would like to have a longer appointment. This will allow the assistant to plan your appointment accordingly, reserving extra time for you with the doctor. If we cannot offer you a suitable appointment, the receptionist will take your details and a doctor will return your telephone call as soon as possible.
Cancelling your appointment
If for some reason you are unable to make it to your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can give your time slot to someone else. If you do not show up without notifying us at least 24 hours before your appointment you receive a bill for 20 euros.
Telephone appointments
If you are uncertain if you need to see a doctor face to face, need medical advice by telephone, have a query about a referral, or want to find out the results of tests, we encourage you to contact the practice by telephone first rather than book a doctor’s appointment. To make an appointment for a telephone consultation session, you will need to speak to the doctor’s assistant. She will arrange for the GP to call you back for a brief consultation and/or to discuss test results. In some cases the assistant may be able to answer your question directly, while in other cases it may be necessary for you to make an appointment to speak to the doctor in person.
Prescriptions
You can request a refill of your prescription by calling (035)6248381 dial 2. Also you can request a refill at our website (www. Huisartsenpraktijkdeegelantier.uwartsonline.nl). You can collect your medicine from your pharmacy the following day after 3:00 PM. Please make sure to request prescription refills in a timely fashion.
House calls
You can call to request a house call before 10:00 AM on weekdays. The doctor’s assistant will ask for your reason for wanting a house call. In some cases, it may be better for you to come to the practice in person. The practice offers better facilities for examination and treatment and in many cases it means you can receive assistance more quickly.
Doctor’s assistants
The doctor’s assistants have been specially trained to carry out a number of duties independently. You can make an appointment directly with them for the following:
- wound care and removing stitches;
- treatment of warts by using liquid nitrogen;
- ear syringing;
- injections;
- taking blood pressure readings.
- blood/urine analysis;
- making an electrocardiogram;
- spirometry (measuring lung function);
- performing vascular exams;
- breast examination;
- pregnancy test;
- pap smears (screening program).
GPs in training
Doctors who have successfully completed medical school and wish to specialize as a GP may work at our office for a period of one year. They hold their own consultations and make their own house calls without direct intervention from the patient’s own GP, unless otherwise requested. The GP in training will discuss the patients he or she has treated with the patients’ GP on a daily basis, thereby ensuring proper supervision.
